House Republicans Fighting to Ensure Troops Get Paid And Government Stays Open

Washington, D.C. – House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1363, The Troop Funding Bill that ensures America's military is funded for the remainder of the fiscal year. Additionally, the legislation cuts $12 billion and keeps the government running for another week.

"The American people sent us here to get our fiscal house in order so our nation's economy can grow and create jobs.  That is why, despite the intransigence of Washington Democrats, Republicans continue to put forth proposals to cut spending and restore responsible government," said Chairman Price.  "Part of our job is to make sure that those brave men and women who have volunteered to defend our great nation have the resources they need.  This is the third time House Republicans have funded our troops for the remainder of this fiscal year.  Our military should not have to operate under a cloud of uncertainty while some in Washington are standing in the way.

"There is no reason that Senate Democrats or President Obama should oppose paying our troops – particularly when they have offered no plan of their own.  Let's pass this short-term continuing resolution and give our troops the resources and certainty they need to plan and protect this nation.  With more time to reconsider, I hope Senator Reid and President Obama will respect the need to cut spending and grow the economy so we can have a stronger, more prosperous nation."
