United States Congressman Ralph Hall, R-Texas, made clear his position on Syria at a Rotary Club luncheon Tuesday inside the Sherman Municipal Ballroom: "I don't want to send our people over there, to fire a volley across to scare somebody or something, that's not going to work. It's gonna show weakness… That's the way to get into a war, and it wouldn't be effective anyway."

Hall spent a large portion of his speech addressing the national debate about what, if any, military action the United States should take to intervene in the ongoing civil conflict in Syria. In an uncommon split from party lines, Hall is holding out hope that legislators can stop the use of military force in Syria.

"We don't have any business going over there… I just don't think we need to go over there and get into somebody else's war. It's high time those people started fighting their own wars," Hall said.

Hall said his conviction against the president's apparent course of action comes from listening to the will of the Texans who elected him. Hall said he received more than 100 personal letters from constituents that expressed their dismay at the prospect of intervening in the Syrian conflict:

"When you get over a hundred letters and not one of them says 'vote with the president,' that tells you something. That makes it easy for me, that's where I was to start with."

SHERMAN, TX -- Long time Congressman Ralph Hall made a stop in Sherman Tuesday to speak with constituents about a wide range of topics, one of those being the situation in Syria.

"I don't want to send our people over there to fire a volley across and scare somebody, or something. That's not going to work. It's going to show weakness, and I think the President ought to make that decision and he's trying to put it off on the Congress now," Congressman Hall said.

Congressman Hall says he has received word from hundreds of constituents who are against taking military action in Syria.

HALL STATEMENT ON SYRIA

ROCKWALL, TX . . . In response to the recent chemical weapons attack in suburban Damascus and the President's urging of Congress to approve military action in Syria, Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-04) released the following statement:

"I have received hundreds of calls and letters from constituents expressing strong opposition to any U.S. involvement in Syria, and I plan to vote 'no' in accordance with their views.

"Along with many of my colleagues, I urged the President to seek Congressional authorization in a letter sent August 28th. His decision to do so gives Americans more time and opportunity to express their views through their elected representatives. When Congress begins debate on this issue next week, I will continue to listen to my constituents and vote with my District."
