A fund raising event for State Representative Bryan Hughes, who has announced his candidacy for Speaker of the Texas House, will be held on September 21 at the Mt. Pleasant Civic Center, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Rep Hughes is opposing the current Speaker, Rino Joe Straus. For those who read my e-mails and/or keep up with politics at the state level, you will remember that Rep. Erwin Cain was choked out his district after he voted against Straus for Speaker during the last legislative session. Erwin was a strong conservative who defeated incumbent Democrat Mark Homer to represent a district that included Mt. Pleasant. (Rep Hughes is now our State Representative). 

 

Rep. Hughes has a proven conservative record,  but public support and funding for his Speaker candidacy is crucial to defeat the strongly entrenched Straus politicial machine.  Tea Partiers and grassroots conservatives e-mailed, called and even went to Austin to oppose Joe Straus as speaker during the last session, but politicial pressure from the speaker on state representatvies resulted in his re-election. We defied the Texas politicial machine and elected Ted Cruz in Texas--we can initiate the enthusiasm and support to oust Strauss as Speaker of the House and get a true conservative, Rep Bryan Hughes, elected!

 

The event is being organized by Kirby Hollingsworth and I will keep you informed as futher info is available. Tea party and grassroots conservative attendence and support from those in Rep Hughes district and throughout  the Northeast Tx area is encouraged.
